Scope and Content of the Records
The Records, 1949-1976, of the Textile Workers Union of America, Northwest Georgia Joint Board, consist of correspondence, financial statements, grievance and arbitration cases, contracts, and photographs. The Records pertain to TWUA Locals 689 and 789 in the Rome, Georgia, area, both of which went defunct in the late 1970's. Officials in both locals corresponded with TWUA presidents Emil Rieve and William Pollock, TWUA Political Action Committee Director Al Barkan, with TWUA Georgia Director H.D. Lisk, and with TWUA Southern Directors Boyd Paton and James Bamford. Primary topics include legislative issues, contract negotiations, wages, work loads, and the 1968 strike. Small series of contracts and photographs complete the collection.
