Scope and Content of the Subseries
Subseries B. Legal advocacy and police training, 1981-1997, consists of correspondence, minutes, notes, and training materials documenting the GABWC's activities in the areas of legal advocacy and police training. Significant topics covered here include caller identifications and custody in domestic violence cases, and clemency and parole advocacy for battered women imprisoned for spouse or domestic partner murder. The papers document GABWC's involvement in organizations such the Coalition of Justice for Women in Prison and Georgia Victims for Justice. (Further information on this subject is also found in the news clippings in Series II, Subseries A; some documentation on the Georgia Victims for Justice is also located in Series I, Subseries E.) Several folders in this subseries document the results of a survey of courts, law enforcement officers, and prosecutors that was conducted by the GABWC in 1993. A group of papers on police training in domestic violence cases is also included here. (For printed manuals relating to legal advocacy and police training, see also Series II, Subseries B, Sub-subseries 2 and 3.) For documentation on committees and task forces relating to general issues of domestic violence, see also Series I, Subseries E. Files are arranged alphabetically by folder title.
