Scope and Content of the Papers
The collection consists of office files and artifacts related to Sherry Sutton's political and social movement activities during the late 1970s and 1980s. Topics covered by these papers include the Equal Rights Amendment Movement in Georgia, the Georgia and National Democratic parties (Bo Ginn, Jimmy Carter), and the DeKalb County Commission (fight against the Presidential Parkway, Atlanta, GA). Other less covered topics in the collection include gay rights, animals rights, battered women, and abortion. Photographs in the collection are mostly related to ERA/Women's Rights and the Democartic Party. Five videocassette tapes containing ERA information are also included in the collection.
Artifacts in the collection include ERA buttons and a t-shirt, a pocket calendar, address book of Georgia politicians and their stance on the ERA, and a handbag from Jimmy Carter's re-election campaign.
