From the Series:

The Records, 1974, of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union (ACTWU), Southern Textile Regional Office, consist of six volumes of court hearings. Three volumes contain hearings from a civil case involving the National Labor Relations Board and the J.P. Stevens Company, June 4-6, 1974. Three other volumes contain hearings from an NLRB case involving J.P. Stevens Company and the Textile Workers Union of America, June 17-19, 1974. Both cases were heard in North Carolina.

The two cases relate to a petition filed by the TWUA on January 7, 1965 concerning union representation of the employees at the J.P. Stevens plants in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. In January of 1966, the TWUA filed unfair labor practice charges against the Stevens company. The petition was held in abeyance until May 7, 1974, at which time the union filed to reopen proceedings on the matter of employee representation.
