Newspaper clippings, 1972-1973

 File — Box: 340, Folder: 1

Scope and Content of the Collection

From the Collection:

This collection contains newspaper clippings documenting a strike at an auto parts plant in Carrolton, Georgia from January 12, 1972 until February 6, 1973. United Auto Workers Local 1725 struck over working conditions in the Douglas and Lomason factory that produced automotive vehicle trim. Both sides of the strike perpetuated violence against the other, including sniper attacks on scabs. The strike ended when the union agreed to return to work under the previous contract, but a dissatisfied management and the newly hired replacement workers along with the non-strikers voted to de-certifiy Local 1725 on February 6, 1973.
