Scope and Contents of the Series
Committee reports, minutes, personal notes and writing, local unit bylaws and minutes, organizing information, salary information, lobbying records, photographs, and educational materials make up the Economic and General Welfare records. In the early 1960s, GNA instituted the Economic Security Committee, later renamed Economic and General Welfare; the aim of the program was to improve nurses' working conditions and salaries. The bulk of these files document the struggle of nurses in Georgia to gain recognition for GNA as their collective bargaining representative.
