Executive Officer/Executive Office, 1907-1989, 1994

 Series
Identifier: III

Scope and Contents

Ledgers, treasurer's reports, membership cards and lists, correspondence, printed material, reports, brochures, and office files make up the Executive Officer/Executive Office files. The executive office and executive officer are responsible for the day-to-day business of the association, and this series documents the increasing complexity of the organization that the central office had to manage. GNA started with part-time volunteer help, moved to a part-time Executive Secretary, then a full-time Executive Secretary with office support staff, and finally to an organization with an Executive Director, Associate Executive Director, and office staff.

Upon acquisition, the files that make up this series were in various states of organization. The state organization and the Fifth District shared an office for quite some time and files from these two units were mixed together. Several different filing systems had been used separately and concurrently over the years. During processing, the files were organized into five subseries: financial records, membership records, correspondence, the reorganization study, and office files. The financial papers, membership records, and correspondence are arranged chronologically. The reorganization study is arranged alphabetically by state, and the subject files are arranged alphabetically. Where possible original folder titles have been retained.
