Scope and Content of the Records

From the Collection:

The Records, 1947-1966, of Local 3290 (Atlanta, Ga.) of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) are primarily composed of correspondence, but also include minutes, financial statements, legal documents, grievances, and arbitration case material. The bulk of the correspondence is between Local 3290 President A. W. Sullivan and CWA officers Joe Beirne, P. J. Morgan, and W. A. Smallwood. Prominent topics of discussion include a 1962 attempt by the officers of Local 3290 to disaffiliate from the CWA, prompting the CWA to place the Local under a temporary administrator; and, also in 1962, a contest between the CWA and the Brotherhood of Teamsters to determine the national bargaining agent for Western Electric Company installers.
