Scope and Content of the Series
This series contains materials relating specifically to the development of Women's Studies programs and courses at Georgia State University. The papers in this series document the history of Women's Studies at Georgia State University from its beginnings as the Women's Studies Group in 1974, the establishment of the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies with a Concentration in Women's Studies in 1984, the approval of the Women's Studies Institute in 1994, and the establishment of the Master of Arts degree in Women's Studies in 1995. Dr. Fowlkes played an active role from 1974 to 1998, serving in several leadership positions, especially as Interim Director from 1990 to 1994, and as the first Director of the Women's Studies Institute in 1998.
