Scope and Content of the Records
The records of the Retail Clerks International Union, Local 1063, 1947-1974, consist of a ledger of membership dues, a cash book of receipts and expenses, a minute book, printed materials and photographs. The minutes (1962-1966) describe elections, membership participation in local and national conferences, negotiations with chain food stores, a boycott of Colgate-Palmolive products, and the Local's condemnation of company use of lie detector machines on employees. The arbitration cases (1978) consist of testimony pertaining to a grievance against the Kroger Company held in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The collection also contains financial documents (1947-1949, 1953-1956) and printed material (1971-1974).
