Legal fees, 1971
Scope and Content of the Series
The Records, 1969-1973 of the Alliance for Labor Action consist of correspondence, legal and financial documents, and printed material. Documentation shows that the ALA was primarily an organizing unit similar to the AFL-CIO and that its principal financial backers were the Truckers and Helpers Local Union No. 728 and General Teamsters Local Union No. 528, Weldon L. Mathis, who was very active in ALA, was President of Local 728, while simultaneously serving as the Executive Assistant to the Teamster President, Frank E. Fitzsimmons. Mathis, as well as Robert Cook, President of Local 528; William Genoese, Director of Organizing, and Tony Zivalich (who later replaced Genoese) were the primary workers in the ALA.
This collection also contains records of the General Teamsters Local 528, 1971-1973, which illuminate the local's relationship with companies whose employees were Teamster members.
