Scope and Content of the Collection
Carolyn Newton Curry's research collection related to her biographical work on Ella Gertude Clanton Thomas (1848-1889). Materials include copies of legal documents, copies of newspaper articles, note cards, conference proceedings, teaching work, and manuscripts. The subject topics include women's history, identity of women, and bibliographic notes for her published book, Suffer and Grow Strong. The research collection includes Curry's copies of Ella Gertude Clanton Thomas's diaries from Duke University, including Curry’s note cards and notes throughout, as well as correspondence between Curry and two of Ella Gertrude Clanton Thomas (otherwise cited as EGCT) great-grand daughters, Gertrude Threlkeld Despeaux and Virginia Ingraham Burr.
