Scope and Content of the Series
Series I consists of Arbitration Hearing Transcripts, 1955-1956. The transcripts record arbitrations between the Communications Workers of America and Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company. These cases concern employees discharged by companies for performing acts of violence against either non-striking employees or company property during the 1955 strike. The cases occurred in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. (Letter preceding case number indicates the state in which the case occurred. Hyphenated numbers indicate cases grouped for hearing.)
