Letters, 1962-1964
Scope and Content of the Papers
These papers trace the career of Fred Halstead as an organizer for the Textile Workers Union of America in the Southern states and as business manager of the Los Angeles Joint Board; TWUA activity reports, 1959, 1961-1967, constitute the bulk of the papers, relating Halstead's various organizing campaigns in the Fifties and Sixties in a day-to-day account. Included are histories of strikes in South Georgia and Alabama, many of which Halstead took part in, and minutes, 1957-1958, of meetings of the Los Angeles Joint Board. Letters, 1957-1964, clippings, and a news release complete the papers.
