Scope and Content of the Records
The records of the United Association of Plumbers and Steam Fitters of the United States and Canada, Local 72 (Atlanta, Ga.), 1939-1972, arrived in two accessions and have been organized into six series.
Series I-II (accession L1974-48) consist of correspondence dealing with jurisdictional disputes over specific job sites and general jurisdictional limits between the Plumbers and other unions, 1950-1972. The records also contain correspondence relating to the Local's membership, financial affairs, politics and routine union business.
Series III-VI (accession L1972-33) also contain information on the entrance requirements, training, examination, restriction and certification of apprentices. The records, 1952-1966, deal will labor-management relations, including contract violation disputers, political fundraising, union concern about particular pieces of Georgia legislation and state and regional conventions.
