Scope and Content of the Series
This first and largest series consists of sequentially numbered (from 499 to 5163, with gaps) legal case files reflecting Shine's representation of the United Textile Workers of America (UTWA) locals and joint boards; Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers (OCAW); teachers'unions; American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and other public employee unions; Retail Clerks; Communications Workers of America (CWA); and United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW); and other unions. Shine's firm also represented individuals in workmen's compensation claims, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission actions, and such civil matters as divorce, child custody, plus wills and probate. While the bulk of this series relates to Shine's legal work for the UTWA and other unions, it does contain a number of his non-union civil and criminal case files as well.
