The Uprising of '34 Collection demonstrates how communities can be impacted in contemporary ways by history and memory, decades after a series of events occur. Veterans of the events of 1934 and their descendants-black, white, mill worker, manager, union, and non-union- were interviewed about mill village life, work conditions, southern contemporaneous culture as well as the strike itself. This finding aid describes the digitized oral history-style interviews available in Georiga State University Library's Digital Collections.

Cleveland Walton was a textile worker. Clara Smith is a textile worker and involved with the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union. Angie Rosner is involved with the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union. Don Rodgers is involved with the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union. Ernest Harris is involved with the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union. Willie Long is involved with the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union. Mamie Gulligan is involved with the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union. Roosevelt is involved with the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union. Abstract

Walton and Smith discuss the attempts at unionization in the 1930s and how they impacted union organization in the 1990s. Rosner and Rodgers discuss the layout for a union newsletter. Rosner, Rodgers, Harris, Long, Gulligan, Roosevelt, Reese, and various other unidentified union members participate in a meeting discussing various events as well as the company's desire to go to on twelve hour shifts.
