Scope and Content of the Series

Series III contains lyrics written by Johnny Mercer, some fairly complete and others very much in draft form, as well as a bound set of scripts from The Chesterfield Music Shop, a photocopy of the book for St. Louis Woman, and miscellaneous notes relating to other shows. Four songbooks in this collection have been transferred to the Songbook Collection.

The series is divided into four subseries:

Subseries A: Lyrics to titled individual songs and poems (arranged alphabetically by title)

Subseries B: Lyrics to untitled individual songs and poems (arranged alphabetically by first line)

Subseries C: Scripts, shows, songbook, broadsides (broadsides arranged alphabetically by first line of text)

Subseries D: Band and choral arrangements (arranged alphabetically by title)
