Scope and Content of the Series

Series I contains information about Johnny Mercer's life and songwriting career, genealogical information about the Mercer family, and memorabilia relating to the activities, memberships and travel of Johnny and Ginger Mercer.

Of particular interest are the stories written by Mercer, his cousin Walter and some of their friends as children. According to Mercer's unpublished autobiography, these stories were collected from the children by a friend of Mercer's Aunt Katherine, who planned to publish a book of stories written by children.

The materials are filed alphabetically by subject.
