Scope and Contents
Interviewed by Christ Paton. At the beginning of the interview, Ms. Pelphrey talks about her family background, including information about the childhood of the three Meltzer sisters, Claire, Ginger, and Deborah, and their parents. She also discusses the early years of Ginger's relationship with and marriage to Johnny Mercer. Ms. Pelphrey then turns to her own childhood memories of her aunt and uncle: special gifts she received from them, visits to California and New York to see them, and trips to Savannah. In the course of the conversation, she relates some anecdotes that reveal Johnny Mercer's character and personality. At the end of the interview, she speaks briefly about Johnny Mercer's last illness and Ginger Mercer's life after his death.
