Scope and Contents
Interviewed by Chris Paton. Mrs. Robbins covers various topics during this interview, including Marshall Robbins' first acquaintance with Johnny Mercer, the circumstances that led to Mercer hiring Robbins, and the variety of projects that her husband and Mercer worked on. Her discussion frequently turns to Johnny and Ginger Mercer, including their personalities and families, the Robbins' visit to Savannah, Mercer's repayment of his father's debt, the celebration of the Mercer's twenty-fifth anniversary, Johnny Mercer's last illness, and the tributes to Mercer following his death. She also speaks of the Robbins' relationship with Ginger Mercer after Johnny Mercer died. During the course of the conversation, Mrs. Robbins talks about Foxy, Saratoga, and The Good Companions, and she reminisces about Mercer's writing of a lyric for the tune for "Shadow of Your Smile." At the end of the conversation, she suggests other potential participants in the Johnny Mercer Oral History Project.

Biographical Note
Barbara Robbins was the wife of Marshall Robbins, a longtime colleague and friend of Johnny and Ginger Mercer. Mr. Robbins founded Commander Publications, a music publishing firm, with Johnny Mercer; Robbins remained as Mercer's music publisher for 28 years.
