Scope and Contents
Interviewed by Lisa Vallen. The oldest of four children, Phil Varnagis discusses his parents, his father's family coming from Lithuania and his mother's side coming from Ireland, life growing up, and how he became involved in the unions for IAM, starting with Local 701. He also discussed events that occurred while he was in the union such as an incident involving theft by a union member and another incident where he was robbed before working for IAM.

Biographical Note
Phil Varnagis is the oldest of four children. He had an interest in the auto and racing industry, but delved into politics and began working for IAM at Local 701. He faced a lot of hardships up until his retirement including being robbed at gunpoint when he worked for SNAP-ON.
