Scope and Contents note

Standard printed contract and transmittal letter: The contract is dated July 22, 1965, between Bregman, Vocco and Conn, Inc., and Johnny Mercer, Milton Samuels, and Charles Hale assigning rights to "Fountain in the Rain." The printed form used is the "1947 Revised Uniform Popular Songwriters Contract." The contract assigns copyright of the song to Bregman, Vocco and Con for 28 years. Payment for the song is spelled out in detail. Payment distribution gives Mercer 50% and the other two men named, 25% each. The contract is for publication rights. Paragraph 24 is added in typescript: "N. B. All sheet music and other printed copies shall read: Lyrics by Johnny Mercer; Music by Milton Samuels and Charles Hale." The three men named have initialed the statement. Signatures on last page are of representative of Bregman, Vocco and Conn, Inc [Bregman?] 1619 Broadway., NYC, NY; Johnny Mercer, 108 Via Koron, Lido Isle, Newport Beach, Calif.; Milton Samuels, 5030 Woodman Ave., Sherman Oaks, Calif.; and Charles Hale, Universal City, Calif.; and is countersigned for the American Guild of Authors & Composers by Miriam Stern, August 13, 1965. Transmittal letter dated August 13, 1965, is signed by Miriam Stern, and addressed to "Mr. John H. Mercer, c/o Vernon D. Wood, 2018 N. Vine St., Hollywood, Calif."
