Interviewed by Andrea Young. In this interview, Williams discusses the urban development of Atlanta, his career as a city administrator, and his work under Mayor Ivan Allen, Jr. He outlines the growth of the business sector in Atlanta, and the ways in which the 1996 Olympic Games, the Civil Rights Movement, and the construction of Hartsfield-Jackson Airport galvanized the community.

Biographical Note
Sam Williams was a partner with Portman Properties, and Vice President of John Portman and Associates. Prior to retiring in 2014, Williams led metro Atlanta’s business community for 17 years as the Metro Atlanta Chamber president. Before that, he lead the downtown Atlanta business community as president of Central Atlanta Progress. After retirement, he joined the faculty of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University. He also served as the President of AmericasMart Atlanta for 12 years.
