Interviewed by Cyndi Carpentieri. In this interview, Sara Doude begins by describing her family's political background and her casual participation in politics during her college years. She then explains how she became involved in her local women's community activism and how this helped her become motivated to joins the Women's March. After describing the logistics of traveling by bus and navigating Washington, D.C., Doude discusses her experience of the march, its cultural necessity, and its long term implications. Finally, she discusses her return from the march and its effects in her community and higher education.

Biographical Note

Sarah Doude was born in 1978 and grew up in conservative, rural Tennessee in a family of politically active Democrats. She earned an Ph.D. in Criminal Justice and is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at Georgia College, where she teaches and researches gender and the criminal justice system. In 2016, she was one of the many women who participated in the Women's March in Washington, D.C.
