Interviewed by Morna Gerrard. In this interview, Mariana Stephens discusses her experience at the 2017 Women's March on Washington, which she attended with her 14-year-old daughter Zoe. In addition to describing the events of the day, she talks about her motivations for marching, her hopes and fears for the future under the current administration, and her feelings about the current political and social climate in America. Stephens talks about her experience of the march in the context of her relationship with her daughter, whose idea it was for them to attend. She expresses optimism about her daughter's generation of voters, and expresses a general optimism about the future despite her objections to the actions and philosophies of the Trump administration.

Biographical Note

Mariana Stephens was born in Galveston, Texas in 1966. Stephens has held various positions in the field of international development and currently works on infectious disease eradication in Mali. She is married with two children and lives in Decatur, Ga.
