Scope and Contents
Interviewed by Erica Hague. In this interview, Calvin Smith describes his experience at the Women's March on Washington, which he attended with his wife and adult daughter. He discusses the things that motivated him to march, including becoming aware of his own privilege as a white man and feeling obligated to help others who lack that privilege. He talks about dealing with social anxiety in the context of an enormous protest march, and he talks about the political activities in which he and his wife have participated since the march ended.

Biographical Note
J. Calvin Smith was born in 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up in a family that was mostly apolitical but supported the Civil Rights Movement. A longtime employee of the federal government, Smith is now retired and lives in north Georgia with his wife, Wendy Yandle-Smith, with whom he has four daughters and three grandsons.
