Interviewed by Karen Stephens. In this interview, Lynn Turner briefly discusses her early life and career. She talks about a group of similar-minded friends with whom she has connected in her north Georgia community, which is overwhelmingly conservative, and discusses the group's efforts to get involved in political activities. She talks about attending the Atlanta March for Social Justice and Women on January 21st, including how she traveled to Atlanta from north Georgia, the issues that motivated her to march, her positive response to the march's atmosphere, and the reactions of her family and friends to her participation in the march. She discusses the political climate in her local community, talks about her hopes for the future, and gives advice to future generations on how to lead fulfilling and socially responsible lives.

Biographical Note

Mary Ellen "Lynn" Turner was born and grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended the University of Alabama and eventually moved to Georgia for her job as a teacher. She taught for several years before becoming a school librarian, a position she held for twenty-seven years before retiring in 2009. She lives in Jasper, Georgia, with her husband.
