Scope and Content of the Records

From the Collection:

The collection consists of records of the AFL-CIO Region 5 (Atlanta, Ga.) and its predecessor, AFL-CIO Region 6 from 1947-1981. Includes correspondence, newsletters, memoranda, proceedings, reports, and printed materials. Materials document the activities of state and local union organizations, labor councils, the AFL, the CIO, and AFL-CIO departments pertaining to political issues, candidates for office, political campaigns, lobbying, the Don Luna case and trial, the J.P. Stevens organization and boycott, issues involving union and non-union business, and general business and includes correspondence of Region 5 Director James Sala (1976-1978). Printed materials consist chiefly of reports relating to the economic situations in Georgia from 1966-1974. Also contained in the collection are bound volumes of The American Federationist (1960-1981) and audio recordings and motion picture films pertaining to the AFL-CIO's national Committee on Political Education.
