Leaflets and Cover Letter, 1974
Scope and Content of the Records
The Records, 1943-1974, of the Augusta Federation of Trades consist of correspondence, minutes, financial documents, membership data, and printed items of the AFT, 1963-1974, as well as minutes of its predecessor, the Augusta Central Labor Union, 1943-1957. The minutes of the Augusta Central Labor Union outline the routine and exceptional concerns of the organization, including efforts to protect a local labor newspaper from advertising encroachment, 1949-1952, and to support striking Augusta bus drivers, 1953-1955. Major concerns of the Augusta Federation of Trades during the period 1963-1970, were rebuilding the membership, reestablishing a labor paper, and taking advantage of renewed interest in union membership. General AFT correspondence from 1974 and printed material including constitutions of the Augusta Central Labor Union and the Augusta Federation of Trades complete the collection.
