Historical Note about the Buckhead Coalition
Buckhead Coalition, Inc., was created in 1989 as a private non-profit corporation. Its purpose was to plan and implement action programs for the improvement of the Buckhead area of Atlanta. Its mission was to assist in the coordination of orderly growth throughout Buckhead by adopting a twenty-year blue print. Membership was by invitation only, of CEO's of pivotal Buckhead firms and others having a major commitment to Buckhead. The Coalition worked closely with all governmental units and shared information with other citizen groups. It exercised a formal relationship with the Buckhead Business Association with interlocking board members and by other means. The first annual meeting was held January 31, 1990. Among the issues the coalition tackled were crime, highways, libraries, street lights, enforcing safety in parks, sidewalks, and the proposal to designate Buckhead's Tuxedo Park area a Landmark District.
