Scope and Contents of the Series
The series reflects Trotter's service on the panel during the 1990s and contains applications for certificate of appropriateness that had to be reviewed and approved by the panel before any additions or renovations could be made to the building in question. Chronologically arranged files document the panel's weekly meetings and include minutes, ordinances, plans and correspondence regarding these requests for alterations. The series also contains articles pertaining to historic preservation and urban planning, including Trotter's own writings.

Historical Note about the Atlanta Urban Design Commission
Atlanta Urban Design Commission was established in 1975 by a City of Atlanta ordinance. It is the intent of the City's Historic Preservation Ordinance that any changes which occur to an historically designated property be in keeping with the historic character of the building or district. The Commission nominates and regulates buildings and districts which are designated as Historic Buildings or Sites, Landmark Buildings or Sites, Conservation Districts, Historic Districts, or Landmark Districts. The Commission reviews and comments on projects that involve City of Atlanta property, rights-of-way, or parks. The Commission reviews and comments to the Zoning Review Board and Board of Zoning Adjustment on any proposed action pending before those boards regarding any building, site or districts that has been designated under the City's historic preservation ordinance. The Commission provides technical assistance and public information to property owners, residents, and others interested in historic preservation, the City of Atlanta's history, the historic resources within the City of Atlanta, or other related subjects. Land use practices, zoning, better strategic planning are all the hallmarks of the commission. The Atlanta Urban Design Commission meetings consist of a series of agenda items that come before the Commission in the form of applications from home owners and commercial owners alike, to make alterations to their buildings that reside in a historic landmark districts. The Atlanta Urban Design Commission has the power to accept or decline the plans of the owner.
