Scope and Content notes for the Research Materials

From the Series:

The scope and content notes for Jim Elledge’s research materials consist of articles, news clippings and excerpts from the early 1800s to 2008. The articles are arranged alphabetically by author, title or by the research repository, (University of Chicago Library’s Burgess Papers and the (CHS) Chicago Historical Society). There are copies of the contents from folders that Elledge found useful to his research from the Ernest Watson Burgess Papers and the box and folder numbers are also cited that finding aid. The articles support Elledge's interest in the history of human sexuality, mental institutions, vagrancy, crime and urban sociology. His books Henry Darger, Throw Away Boy, History of My Tattoo, and to be True to A City, explores many of these aspects. Also many of these articles revolve around teenage delinquency and institutionalization, paralleling Darger’s early life. These file were kept in his office at Kennesaw State University and was the supportive reading materials for the course work and literature classes he taught.
