Scope and Contents of the Series

From the Series:

Records concerning the Team Defense Project, the non-profit legal team with which Millard Farmer has been closely associated, make up the series. Printed material, correspondence, and financial records, 1972-1985, 1990-1992, comprise the bulk of the records in the series. Many of the files relate to efforts to sustain the Team Defense Project (TDP) financially, through fund-raising and efforts to obtain grants. The operation, staffing, and activities of TDP are reflected in financial and managerial materials as well as files documenting the project’s newsletter. Notes and correspondence contained in this series document a few cases, including that of Wendell Moye (also the subject of files in Series I). The series contains information about the coordination of community efforts when Farmer was jailed for contempt in Blackshear, Georgia in 1979 following Farmer v. Holton, as well as other efforts to raise the profile of TDP. Some files contain clippings and articles about Farmer, Andrea Young, and the project. Series I contains files related to the lawsuits between TDP and the Southern Poverty Law Center.
