Scope and Content of the Series
Series VII (1957, 1969-1972) of the Service Employees International Union, Southern Region records consists of correspondence, financial documents, and printed material. The correspondence is primarily that of Southern Regional Director Val Cox. Notable correspondents are SEIU International President Georg Hardy and organizers John Geagan, Demetrio Lucio, and John Collier. The primary activity discussed is the organization and subsidization of SEIU locals in the south among policemen, custodial workers, and funeral home workers. Also discussed are some jurisdictional conflicts with other unions. A limited body of material describes the Southern Regional Organizing Fund and the AFL-CIO Tampa-St. Petersburg Cooperative Organizing Campaign, 1971.
