Scope and Contents of the Accession

Series V (1961-1974) of the Service Employees International Union, Southern Region records consist of correspondence, legal documents, financial statements, and printed items. The correspondence is primarily that of SEIU Southern Regional Director Val Cox with SEIU President David Sullivan, Secretary-Treasurer George Fairchild, and organizers Clarence Clayton and Hubert Cranford. Major topics of discussion are organization and subsidization of local unions in the south, filing and handling of grievances, National Labor Relations Board charges against employers, and legislative programs.
