Series I (1958, 1962-1970) of the Service Employees International Union, Southern Region records consist primarily of the correspondence and activity reports of Southern Representative Val Cox; general office files; and correspondence, minutes, financial documents and printed material illuminating organizational drives (and some strikes) of SEIU locals in Atlanta, Charleston, Columbus, Florence-Sheffield (Alabama), Huntsville, Jackson, Knoxville, New Orleans and Tulsa. In this material is correspondence that describes the initial organizing efforts of the parimutuel clerks at Louisiana racetracks. Activity reports of Val Cox, 1965-1967, describe organizing campaigns in Texas and the Midwest, particularly Indiana. Concluding the Records are National Labor Relations Board documents concerning the linen services industry.
