Scope and Contents of the Records

Georgia State AFL-CIO records, 1980s-1990s, consist of correspondence, newsletters, Committee on Political Education (COPE) records, Workplace Fairness bill briefs, 1992 election materials, State Board of Worker's Compensation Council meeting minutes and agendas, Advisory Committee on Legislation minutes and agendas, United Association (UA) convention materials, King Week materials, photographs, Workers Compensation black listing materials, conference materials, healthcare reform information.

The records also contain audiovisual materials. VHS tapes include "An American Hero", campaign biography for Congressman John Lewis; "Condition of Workplace Safety," union film about Ohio workman’s compensation laws (1997); and news footage of Teamsters strike against United Parcel Service (UPS) in Atlanta, Georgia (1990s). Cassette tapes include a speech delivered by Dennis Walton to International Union of Operating Engineers local 675 (September 26, 1986), a North Georgia Building and Trades Council 60-second radio ad against General Mills, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) "Olympic Rally" pro-union radio ad, and WGST Interview with General Mills (February 7, 1998). Formats include photographs, campaign buttons, Labor Day slides, VHS, and cassette tapes.

Some organizations represented in this collection include the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Teamsters, the United Association, General Mills, and United Parcel Service (UPS).
