Scope and Content of the Series
This series is comprised of legal cases and related matters of labor unions and labor-related organizations. The United Textile Workers of America (UTWA), 1939-1973 constitutes the largest series of the records, but there are also case files pertaining to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in several Southern cities; Laundry Workers Local 218 in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee; Atlanta's Painter & Allied Trades District Council No. 38; Plumber Local No. 72, Atlanta; Locals of the Sheetmetal Workers in Atlanta and Memphis; Iron Workers local 616, Atlanta; Retail Clerks Local 1063, Atlanta; locals of the United Brotherhood of carpenters in Atlanta and Memphis; and other local unions and state labor councils. A smaller series includes the Georgia Democratic Party Forum, 1967-1968; Georgia legislation 1959-1969; Workmen's Circle Branch 1015, 1959-1974; Atlanta Urban League, 1963-1971; and Workmen's compensation laws, 1962-1972. Printed contracts, union constitutions, pamphlets, proceedings, magazines, and newsletters complete the series.
