Scope and Content of the Series

From the Series:

A majority of the records concern his association with the United Hatters, Cap, & Millinery Workers International Union, both as legal counsel and as public relations specialist. Principal subjects include negotiation of contracts for locals in Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Georgia, labor disputes and cases brought before the National Labor Relations Board and other courts. Of particular interest is correspondence describing the organization of local Hatters' unions and with the International Union concerning activities to promote consumer demand for the union label. Similar but less numerous records document Jacobs' association with the International Ladies' Garment Workers Union, particularly the two local Unions (339 and 415) forming the Miami (Florida) Joint Council. Subjects of the remainder of the collection include a 1963-1967 Georgia case involving legal interpretations of workmen's compensation; a NLRB suit brought against Local 1063 of Retail Clerks International Association by an individual (1970); a UA Plumbers and Pipe fitters strike against Atlanta Gas Light Company (1954) with subsequent litigation and negotiation; and labor disputes between Clement Brothers Company and Local 500 International Union of Operating Engineers (1971-1972) and Local 41 of International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees.
