Scope and Content of the Series

From the Series:

Series II is composed of correspondence and legal papers related to printing unions within a given city represented by McLellan or by local attorneys. The series is organized alphabetically by city name and unions within that city, and dates for a city's materials are derived from available folder and intenal information. Canadian cities' materials are interfiled alphabetically with United States cities' files. Some major city's files, such as New York and Chicago, stretch to two linear feet, with the entire series comprising over 40 feet. These cities' files are distributed throughout the United States and contain much information on wage scales in the printing trades during the 1920s and before. Transcripts of hearings and related correspondence concerning grievances, arbitration, working conditions, and job descriptions offer significant, contemporary information about the printing trades within given cities.
