Minutes -- General Executive Board, 1961-1962

The office files contain items that relate to the functioning of the UGWA's central headquarters. Included are a set of indexes on various subjects (agreements, publicity, finances, wages), an alphabetical by subject file of correspondence (1930s and 1940s), old agreements, wage information, finances (especially the Death Benefits fund, 1970s-1982), and label information. Documents in the L1997-08 portion of this series include: minutes of the General Executive Board meetings, covering 1899-1912 and 1934-1994; UGWA convention programs of the period between 1947 and 1991; label ledgers dating from 1902 to 1957; and record books, which contain newsclippings, convention proceedings, and relevant labor statutes. The minutes from the early period cover issues such as immigration, sick benefits, and nine-hour work days; those from the 1950s are concerned partly with the trial and ultimate dismissal of Board member Joseph Crispino; and those from the latter period contain issues such as the financial struggles and the loss of membership. The correspondence contains letters and clippings from 1929 outlining the history of the UGWA. Also notable are two files relating to the conversion to the "line" system of operation that some companies used experimentally during the late 1930s, and adopted in the 1940s. The convention proceedings include meetings of the Union-Made Garment Manufacturers of America (1905-1918) and the Union Labor Trades Department (1923-1929) in addition to the meetings of the UGWA.

Original order has been maintained. The office files in accession L1992-17 are filed first, followed by those in accession L1997-08. Files in the latter accession are mainly arranged alphabetically by folder title.
