Great East Coast Muffler Case, 1980
Scope and Content of Series XVIII: Legal Files
PATCO’s Legal Files (1966-1983) contain correspondence, court rulings, and other materials relating to PATCO challenges to the FAA utilizing aspects of the court system (1969-1981). Included is documentation about legal issues that moved beyond the arbitration and grievance system, and do not cover the 1981 strike. The majority of the files are unfair labor practice claims against the FAA before the National Labor Relations Board, but there are also several cases before the Merit Systems Protection Board. In addition to individual case files, this series also includes general legal correspondence between PATCO and its attorneys. The legal series contains multiple files regarding a number of important PATCO cases including the 1970 sick out, the O’Hare slowdown (1979-1980), and the unlawful transfers of three Baton Rouge controllers (1969).
