Abstract:
Andrew P. McElroy, Sr. (1863-1921) immigrated to America from Scotland in 1882. A skilled stonecutter, he settled in Atlanta where he was in charge of all stonework in the building of the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary from 1903 to 1917. During and prior to this time, he was very active in union work both locally and nationally. His papers, 1884-1935, contain personal letters and printed material; photographs; and an artifact collection containing stonemason tools and convention and parade...
