Scope and Content of the Records
The Records, 1920-1972, of the International Typographical Union, Local 162 (Jacksonville, Fla.), include financial documents, minutes, printed materials, and correspondence. The correspondence, 1941-1972, and the minutes, 1927-1971, discuss apprentice regulations and training, contract negotiations with newspapers, book and job shops, efforts to obtain the 8-hour day and the 5-day week, new printing processes that threatened job security, strikes in 1946-1947 and 1958, hearings before the War Labor Board, membership applications, interpretations of by-laws and contracts, pensions and the use of and patronage of the union label. The financial documents, 1920-1971, include audit reports, tax returns, receipts and disbursements, strike and relocation assistance and mortuary claims.
