Personal I.D.'s -- driver's license, New York and Georgia and library cards, New York, 1974-2006
Scope and Contents of the Series
The Personal series begins with Lorraine Fontana's birth certificate in 1947 and spans to 2014. Materials include correspondence from high school to 2014 with family, friends, and colleagues. Her career as a paralegal in the legal unit of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), documents the process of obtaining justice for workers who have been discriminated against and/or harassed in the work place on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation or disability. Not only are the dockets available, describing issues of the plaintiff in each case, but the papers also document Fontana's career, the application process, and her looking for positions within and outside of the EEOC. New Leaf was another employer, a distributing company for metaphysical and holistic health titles, whose mission is to serve the evolutionary transformational movement, providing services, creating prosperity and opportunity for themselves and others. In 2000, Fontana continued her lifelong learning by attending the New School University cinema classes in New York City. The series includes articles, and Fontana's personal account of seeing a plane crash into the north tower of the World Trade center on September 11, 2001, from her office at the EEOC. All this is documented through articles, applications, biographical materials, case description and documents, correspondence, handbooks and memos. In the folder inventory, the notes were composed by Fontana.
